WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PROTECT FROM FREEZE SERVICES
As the temperature begins to plummet across the United States, we are saddled with a much larger task than just keeping ourselves warm: how to protect our clients freight from the harsh elements as well as the potential damages that can ensue. When cargo is temperature-sensitive, but still has to get where it needs to go, Protect from Freeze services are the solution.
Protect form Freeze is a service that many LTL carriers provide to prevent goods from freezing or being negatively affected by below freezing temperatures. Products such as paints, adhesives, chemicals, perishable foods, alcohol and batteries must maintain a temperature above freezing throughout their entire transit in order to be delivered successfully to their destination. Protect from Freeze services allows cargo to be sheltered from inclement conditions in a variety of ways, including: closely monitoring the outside temperature, protective pallet blankets, heated compartments, heated trailers and heated storage areas.
Although Protect from Freeze services are provided by many LTL carriers, the services are not always created equal. We advise all of our customers to provide us with detailed instructions for their specific freight in order to match their needs with the proper carriers freeze protection services. Make sure to provide the commodity type and temperature requirements in addition to the standard shipment details. Also, be sure to note that each carrier has different limitations of liabilities for handing freight under freeze protection. Above all else, be sure that your freights specific freeze protection requirements are clearly printed on the Bill of Lading.
In cases of extreme cold, some carriers may not be able to offer a freeze protection guarantee and will place an embargo on this service until temperatures rise slightly. Your operations representative at PNG Logistics will have the most accurate information in this type of situation.
