Section 301 Duty Increase Officially Postponed

On December 1, 2018 President Trump advised the additional duty rate for articles on List 3 would not increase from 10 to 25 percent as scheduled on January 1, 2019.  Instead, he postponed the increase while China and the U.S. entered a 90-day period to continue negotiating over trade issues.  However, legal notification is required to officially postpone the increase.  The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative published the legal notice in the Federal Register on December 19, 2018.  December 1, 2018 marked the start of the 90-day negotiation period, so the increase is now scheduled to be effective on March 2, 2019.
